THE UNCOMMON GOOD

PERTUBUHAN PUSAT KEBAJIKAN DESTINY

Planning Phase :
Our first plan actually wanted to organize a motivation camp in nearest secondary boarding school. But it's failed because of school holidays. After emailed a lot of NGOs, we managed to participate in an event as the volunteers in KLCC which was called "The Uncommon Good" organized by National Cancer Council Malaysia(MAKNA). The consequence of this event, we continued our volunteering at Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny located in Klang. With the cooperation of all team members and our advisor, Dr Badrul, we managed to complete this two volunteering successfully.
Execution Phase 1:
The Uncommon Good - NPO Forum and Fair
24-25 November 2017
KLCC
We depart from UM at 6:30 am and travel to KLCC by LRT. The reason why we departed way too early because we need to hear a simple breafing and receive our volunteer's shirt at 7:30 am. All booth in the hall being categorized in four clusters, which are Welfare, Education, Environment and Healthcare. After the briefing, we were assigned to our respective department. As being the charge for Healthcare cluster, I have learnt a lot of extra knowledge like what others NPOs doing and their role towards our society, especially in healthcare. The participating NPOs in this cluster are Hospis Malaysia, MERCY MALAYSIA, PT Foundation and many more. After the briefing in Healthcare cluster, me and Hanif being stationed at Malaysia AIDS Council booth. This NPO was built to increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education on HIV/AIDS in Malaysia. Then, me and Jia Hong being stationed to National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia. This NPO strives to raise the standards of care we provide to patients with kidney failure and those who are suffering from various kidney-related diseases.

Execution Phase 2:

Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny
1st December 2017
Klang

Teach how to draw
Feed the kids
Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny being created to empower the underprivileged, the needy, the poor and marginalized children to live meaningful and purposeful lives with peace and equity. This charity centre was full of children especially refugees from Myanmar. Miss Irene, the person in charge of this centre emphasize that at an early stage which is 7 years older and below, is a stage for them to form a good identity that can change their entire lives in future. Once we reached the centre, all of the children were so happy to see us. They also very talkative because the kids were the one that asks my name first rather than me to ask them first. We do some ice breaking session through dancing together. They really love to dance the shark-do-do dance. Then, we spent our time by teaching them basic knowledge such as; if we found any rubbish, we need to put it into a dustbin. We also teach them alphabet and drawing. During lunchtime, we help the teachers to feed the kids. The food was really good and nutritious as its good to help in those kids ageing. After lunch, we helped to bath the kids and then they had their afternoon nap. At 3:30 pm, most of the kids were already wake from their sleep, while waiting for their parents to pick them up, we watch a movie                                                                                       titled Moana.

Have fun with kids

Post Project Reflection:
We really satisfied and proud after finishing this social engagement project. Although having many problems at first, surprisingly we manage to join a project that actually didn't even crossed our mind to collaborate with MAKNA. By joining as a volunteer for "The Uncommon Good", I realised that there were many problems in our world. These NPOs were all a platform for us to manage these problems. By continuing our volunteering to Destiny charity house, I feel really sad by watching all of the there refugees kids, they didn't even get like what I got during I was a kid. By the way, this centre only can manage about 70 kids, and actually, there are still many kids out there that were very unfortunate.
