Planning Phase:
After several discussions among the team members and with the consent of our group advisor, we have decided to participate in the volunteering work organised by the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA) at KLCC which is an exhibition themed, "The Uncommon Good".It was also through this exhibition we found another volunteering work which is located in the Klang Valley. This time, instead of helping out in an exhibition, we provided our service to a charity home, Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny. These activities will not be a success without the cooperation of each team member. It was the sacrifice of time and energy that have made this project a meaning and successful one.

Execution Phase 1:
The Uncommon Good-NPO Forum and Fair
24-25 November 2017
KLCC
All 10 members of group 5 departed from UM at 6.30 in the morning as we do not want to be late for this meaningful event. As soon as we stepped our foot into the event place, we were distributed into our respective departments. The exhibition was held in the conference hall where there were all together 4 clusters which are: Welfare, Healthcare, Environment and Education. I was stationed at the healthcare cluster working under the Malaysian AIDS Council. After knowing what should I be doing for the rest of the day, I started my work by greeting fellow visitors who came to the booth. I gave explanations to the visitors on how to increase awareness of HIV/AIDS and ways to prevent HIV from spreading. I also gave advice to the public on not judging or discriminate those who are associated with AIDS. Instead, we should protect the rights of those who made vulnerable by HIV. If they know or come across anyone who have or is suspected with AIDS, do not hesitate to contact the Malaysian AIDS Council as they can provide care and support to individuals with AIDS. I also participated in the Meet and Greet session where public are encouraged to take part in the Q and A session with the professionals. Through this meet and greet session, the public is able to gain beneficial knowledge on how a non-profit organization (NPO) carry out its work. Besides, I also took the opportunity to visit the booths that were being set up in the conference hall. Through the visits, we gained immeasurable amount of knowledge on how the NPO tackle certain issues and learned how their organization work to improve the situation.

Explaining what is the role of Malaysian AIDS Council to the public.

Visiting on of the booth from the environment cluster by Free Tree Society.

                                                      My fellow Group 5 teammates.

Execution Phase 2:
Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny
1st December 2017
Klang
We had some light breakfast before going to the charity home as we departed quiet early in the morning. We were warmly welcomed by the kids as they were excited to see us. According to the person in charge, Miss Irene, there is a total of 70 kids from various refugee family. However, there were only 30 plus kids( 2 to 7 years old) in the home that day because it was a public holiday. Miss Irene brief us on the how did the idea of this home came about and what they do to help the kids. The centre was started by a refugee who later returned to his home country and hence Miss Irene decided to take over the centre. She believes that value of a human is the crucial point that can really changes a person's life, hence she emphasizes on the importance of good values among the kids. We kick started the day by having a dancing activity with kids which they enjoyed very much. We also taught them about the importance of keeping the environment clean and to pick up and throw away rubbish into a bin. We used visual aids such as playing educational video to let them learn in a more interactive and interesting way. Then we taught the kids the read and memorize ABCD. It was not an easy task as some of the kids don't have a strong foundation. During lunch time, lunch was prepared and we helped to feed those kids who are reluctant to eat their own food. After their meal, we helped to shower the kids before letting them to have a short nap. After the short nap, we watched a movie with the kids which they enjoyed very much. After that, it was time to say goodbye and we left the home after taking a photo with the kids.

                                                        Dancing together with the kids.

Group photo with the kids before heading home.

Post Project Reflection:
Through both activities, our group have achieved the objectives of this subject which is to engage with the society and produce an impact to the society, directly or indirectly. We have successfully encourage and influence people to be a volunteer in any form of activities as long as it bring benefits to the society. By participating in the exhibition, I gained many new knowledge which one cannot gain by just reading a book. Through the explanations given by the experts from their field, it really open up my mind and it really changes the way on how I perceive certain issues. On the other hand, through the visit to Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny, I realized that not only the local kids need our help, but the foreign refugees also need them. Most of them escaped from their country due to war and they have decided to start up a new life here in Malaysia. Hence, we are also responsible to look after the well-being of these refugees. After all, we live under the same sky and above the same piece of land. It was also through this visit that reminds me of how fortunate I am compared to other kids and I should be grateful with what I have.

Love all, serve all,
Help ever, hurt never.
