Planning Phase:
After our group have a group discussion, we started to find the organization which is suitable and available to our group. We have found many different kinds of the project and also organization. Finally, we found National Cancer Council Malaysia(MAKNA) and glad to have the chance to become a volunteer in the THE UNCOMMON GOOD exhibition in Kuala Lumper Convention Centre(KLCC). THE UNCOMMON GOOD is a exhibition organized by MAKNA to let the public knows how Non-Profir Organization(NPO) work to help the society and the NPO can also promote their volunteering work to the public in this exhibition. On the other hand, we also become volunteer of the Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny, Klang. My teammate and I learnt lots of knowledge and experience through both of the projects and the things that we learnt from both of the projects will benefits us in the future. These experience are the things that cannot be studied in university and would not be forgotten by all of us in the future.

THE UNCOMMON GOOD

24th & 25th November 2017 (Friday&Saturday)
Kuala Lumper Convention Centre (KLCC)

On around 6:45am, we started to move to KLCC from University of Malaya by using public transportation. We arrived there around 7:30am and having a short briefing by the representatives from THE UNCOMMON GOOD exhibition. The exhibition booth was divided into four cluster which is Welfare, Environment, Healthcare and Education. Each of us was distributed to different cluster. I am the person in charge for the eHomemakers booth under welfare cluster. As an exhibitor,  we explained to the public about the volunteering opportunity of the organization and also how the organization work to help the society. We also explained to public what the events that will be held by the organization. For example, eHomemakers have a project called EnWeave Community. The volunteer from eHomemakers will teach the underprivileged women to make Ecobaskets by using magazines and they will also help them to sell it through online and also in exhibition. This project helped women to gain their own income by themselves so that they can take care and give a better life to their children.

On the other hands, my teammate and I also take this great opportunity to visit and communicate with other exhibitor in different booth such as PAWS, Free Tree Society, MERCY etc. We have learnt a lots knowledge from them during interaction with them. For example, we had visit a organization called MareCet. It is a organization which protect and generate the awareness on marine mammals and greater marine environment. According to the explanation from the exhibitor, we were so surprised that we have dolphin in Malaysia!

Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny, Klang

1st December 2017 (Friday)

We arrived Klang at around 9:00am and we have a briefing by the representative, Madam Irene about the activities of the kids on that days. I was so excited to see these kids. This is because during my holiday time, I worked as a daycare teacher. I love to interact with kids because they are so cute and innocent. Around 10am, we started to teach the kids dancing and they enjoyed it very much.

On the other hands, we also teach the kids about the importance of the environment and the ways to protect the environment. We had explained it by using action and also video to ensure that the kids will know it better. After that, we also teach the kids simple English through one-to-one teaching and we try our best to teach them. After the teaching class, the kids are going to have their lunch. The kids enjoyed their meals very much and we also helped some kids to take their lunch. Then, the kids are going to take their bath. We helped the kids bath such as helping them changing clothes, putting body powder and etc. After bathing, the kids are taking a nap. After the kids wake up, we watched movie as a entertainment time. Before we leave, we took lots of photos with the kids and said goodbye to these kids and Madam Irene. I hope that I have the chance to meet them again.

Post Project Reflection

First and foremost, I would like to thank Dr. Awanis, my instructor of Social Engagement Course and Dr. Badrul, advisor of our group 5 which give me the opportunity to involve in volunteering work and also engage with society outside of the university. Thank you for always advised us and helped us when we faced problem during the time when we were approaching the organizations.

I really appreciate this opportunity to become a volunteer in THE UNCOMMON GOOD organized by MAKNA which really improve my NPO's knowledge in fields of environment, healthcare, welfare and also education. Through this exhibition, I have knew various types of organization which helping the needed people in the community. In addition, I glad to have the opportunity to communicate with the community outside the university. This project not only improve my communication skills but also the improve my confidence to speak in front of public. I also take the opportunity to communicate with the other exhibitor of the booth to exchange our view on NPO's and also experience when doing volunteering work.

In addition, I also appreciate to become a volunteer of the Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny, Klang. Most of the kids there are refugees. During the time taking care of them, I felt like although we are from different country, but we do not have boundary with them because we are same human. We should always help the needed people by not looking to their races and religions. We should help them and give our loves to them when they are needed. I enjoyed my time with these kids and they really make my day.

I would like to thank my teammate which make our group in successful. Without the 9 member, I believe that our group would not success this time. I think that we have achieved a great teamwork when preparing projects and also during the time of volunteering. I enjoyed the moment with my teammate and also the volunteering job. Although this course is around the corner, but I believe that I would involve myself in the volunteering in the future because I feel that the volunteering work that I involved is not enough. I hope that I can become a volunteer which can help the society again in the future.
